Jeanette Winterson

Jeanette Winterson is an acclaimed author who grew up in Accrington and attended the Accrington & Rossendale College. Her first novel, Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit, won the 1985 Whitbread Prize for a First Novel, and was adapted for television. In 1987 she won the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize for The Passion, a novel set in Napoleonic Europe. She has since published numerous further novels, most recently 2012's The Daylight Gate.
