Celia Kay

A FOOD science lecturer at Accrington Catering College for over 20 years, Mrs Celia Kay, has died in White Ash Brook Nursing Home, Oswaldtwistle, aged 80.
Mrs Kay, of First Avenue, Church, was born in Glasgow but at the age of 14 she moved to Blackburn where her grandfather, father and uncle ran the Grand Theatre and owned Casey’s Court.
She attended Notre Dame School and went on to Blackburn Technical College.
She worked at Cocker’s where she met her late husband Derrick. After their marriage in 1954 they lived in Canada for three years before returning to Accrington.
Mr Kay died three years ago and the couple had a son Stuart who died at the age of 30 from leukaemia after gaining a PhD from Oxford University.
Mrs Kay, who leaves a brother and cousins, was a keen caravanner and reader, and she also loved crosswords, music and knitting.
The Rev Rob Pickering will conduct the funeral at Accrington Crematorium today.
