A FORMER Accrington man has died at his home in Fish Hock, South Africa aged 78.
Mr John (Terry) Taylor was born in Haslingden and was a welder by trade, serving his time at Lang Bridges prior to doing two years National Service with the Royal Engineers where he served in the far East.
He spent some time in Canada before returning briefly to Accrington.
He then moved to Zambia and worked in the copper mines as a welder and met his wife Judith while living there. He then moved to Cape Town where Judith’s family lived.
Following another brief spell in Accrington with all his family, Terry returned to South Africa and worked on the dredges in Cape town harbour before becoming a caretaker for a large business complex prior to his retirement.
He kept in touch with Accrington and district through his sister and brother and was thrilled when Stanley got back into the football league.
As well as Judith, he leaves his son Carl, stepsons Edward and Philip in South Africa, his sister Rene, brother Pat and cousin Ken who all live in Accrington. He was also the brother of the late Leonard.
Service and cremation took place on 7 Novemver in Fish Hock, South Africa.
