Reginald Walton

CRICKET supporter Mr Reginald Walton, known as Reg, of Avenue Parade, Accrington, has died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital aged 87.
During the Second World War he served in the Royal Artillery in Palestine for seven years and also played the drums in the Army.
On his return to Accrington he worked at Bridgetts Ltd glass and china wholesalers for several years as regional sales representative covering Cumbria and the North West. He then moved to another local firm, Charles Bullocks, doing a similar type of work, and remained there up to his retirement.
A former member of the Rose Society, he grew some beautiful varieties of the plant and he was also a member of the GEM Motorist Association (Veteran Car Club) for over 70 years.
A lifelong lover of cricket, he was an active member at Accrington, a loyal supporter of the club and on the committee for many years.
The husband of Maud and the late Elsie, he was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist, Accrington, for many years and was interested in gardening, watching sport on TV, big band music, family holidays and doing oil paintings.
He also leaves children Stephen and Susan, in-laws Lyn, Steve, Carol and John and grandchildren James, Becky, Michael and Tiff. He was also brother-in-law of Ronald and Mildred, brother of Arno and Sybil and cousin of Ernest.
He will be cremated at Accrington next Friday following a service in the chapel conducted by a minister from the First Church of Christ Scientist, Accrington.
