Leonard Hunter

GROUP shop controller for 24 years at Rists Ltd, Mr Leonard (Len) Hunter, has died aged 80 in the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

He lived with his wife Margaret at Harwood Bar Caravan Park, Mill Lane, Great Harwood.

Mr Hunter was greatly involved with the theatre in Shepherds Bush, London, as a stage director in his early years, meeting many well-known actors and actresses such as Ted Ray, Eve Boswell, Frankie Howerd, Joyce Grenfell and Hilda Baker. He also toured with the theatre company in Northern Ireland.

A devoted family man, he loved travelling abroad and enjoyed photography, gardening and good food and wine.

Two of his proudest moments were attending his granddaughter Emma’s graduation last summer and learning that granddaughter Victoria had earned a place at Edinburgh University.

He had a great sense of humour and was an optimist who never gave up despite failing health.

He leaves daughters Pauline, Christine and Kathryn, son Michael, sons-in-law Roy, Craig and Sam, grandchildren Emma, Victoria, Lydia, Joan, Philip, Daniel, Adam and Charlotte, great- grandson Max and grandson-in-law Wesley.

He was cremated at Accrington yesterday (Thursday) following a service conducted by the Rev Brian Stevenson.
