Henry McGowan

A MAN who worked part-time up to the age of 71 has died at his home in Pendleton Avenue, Accrington.

Mr Henry (Harry) McGowan, who was 71, was born in Glasgow and moved to Accrington 41 years ago with his wife Isabell, to whom he had been married for 47 years.

A well-loved and respected member of St Mary’s parish, Oswaldtwistle, he served with the Highland Light Infantry in Cyprus for two years.

He settled in Accrington, working for Black and White’s before moving to Mato Engineering, formerly Mastabar, as a time-served turner for 36 years.

He was connected with Spring Hill and Willow Mount WMCs and Oswaldtwistle Social Club, and his interests included horse racing, snooker and golf

He was also a part-time dolphin trainer.

As well as his wife, he leaves children Paul, Joanne and Julie and grandchildren Aimee, Libby and Alex.

Mr McGowan was cremated at Accrington on Friday 20 June following a service at St Mary’s conducted by Father John Daly.
