Raymond Tennant

FORMER bus driver and long-distance driver Mr Raymond (Ross) Tennant, who used to live in Grafton Avenue, Baxenden, has died aged 82 at Wordsworth House Care Home, Hapton.
Mr Tennant, latterly of West View Terrace, Padiham, had worked at the Royal Ordnance factory in Blackburn as a civil servant for 10 years and had previously been an Accrington Corporation bus driver and a driver for Gilbraith’s.
During the Second World War he served with the Royal Army Service Corps throughout France, Germany and Italy and was at Neimagan Bridge – known as A Bridge Too Far.
He served with the RASC in North West Europe from 1944 to 46 and then with the British Army of the Rhine in 1947. He also served in the Anti-Aircraft Company, and General Transport and Infantry Brigade, and then with the Army Reserve until 1959.
A lifelong Accrington Stanley member and supporter, he leaves his wife Doris and daughter Julie McDonald. He also leaves a son-in-law, grandson, brother and nephews and nieces.
He was due to be cremated at Accrington on Thursday 28 August following a service conducted by the Rev Roger Parker.
