Thomas Wilcock

A LIFELONG member of St Mary’s Church, Oswaldtwistle, Mr Thomas Wilcock, of Park View, Church, has died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital aged 76.
For many years Mr Wilcock worked in his father’s business, wholesale fish merchant J Flynn and Son, which supplied fish to all the chip shops in Church, Oswaldtwistle, Accrington and Clayton-le-Moors.
For 25 years up to his retirement in 1997 he was employed by M and F Components of Accrington as a storeman.
At St Mary’s, Mr Wilcock served on the committee of the church’s football club until his final illness.
He was also a darts and cricket enthusiast, playing darts at various clubs in Accrington.
He had been a member of Church Cricket Club since his youth, paying the princely sum of seven shillings and sixpence as an annual ticket holder in 1948.
The brother of Eileen and Betty, he also leaves brother-in-law Frank and was the brother-in-law of the late Derek. He also leaves a cousin Ann and was an uncle and great-uncle.
He was buried at Dill Hall Cemetery on Tuesday 26 August following a service at St Mary’s RC Church, Oswaldtwistle, conducted by Father Peter Tierney.
