Joannes Filippini

A MAN who served on torpedo ships in the Dutch Navy, Mr Joannes (Jan) Filippini, has died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital aged 82.
Mr Filippini, of Alleytroyds, Church, spent most of his working life in commercial body building after serving his time at Gilbraith Transport for four years.
After his conscription into the Dutch Navy he worked for York Trailers in Holland.
He then returned to England and worked at Bedwas Motors in Chorley as managing director for many years.
A member of Sacred Heart, St Joseph’s and St Anne’s RC Churches in Accrington, he was one of many parishioners who volunteered to build St Joseph’s many years ago.
He enjoyed reading, gardening, DIY and devoting time to his family.
He leaves his wife Vida, brother Kees, grandchildren Emma and Matthew and great-grandchildren Jacob and Beatrice.
He was the father of the late Jan and the late Miesje and brother of the late Maria.
Father Seamus Quigley will conduct a service in St Anne’s Church on Tuesday 9 September before cremation at Accrington.
