Margaret Connor

A WOMAN who came to Accrington to escape the blitz during World War Two died on Monday 1 September aged 94.

Mrs Margaret (Peggy) Connor died in Barnfold Home for the Elderly.

She and her first husband Walt were well known in Accrington where they were members of working men’s clubs.

She worked both in munitions and canteens before moving away and later married her second husband Peter.

They returned to Accrington in later years to be nearer their children and grandchildren, and lived in St Andrew’s Court, Oswald-twistle.

They enjoyed socialising in local pubs and mixing with regulars of all age groups.

Mrs Connor leaves daughters Mary and Jean, and nine grandchildren Jacquelyn, David, Sue, Gary, Neil, Elaine, Amanda, Jackie and Steven. She was the also the mother of the late Walter and Dorothy.

The funeral will be held at Accrington Crematorium on Monday 8 September.
