George Brown

AN ACCRINGTON man has died just one week after his wife Henrietta (Etta) to whom he had been married for 57 years.

Mr George McCurdie Brown, who was 78, died in his sleep at his home in Burnley Road, Accrington.

A born-again Christian, Mr Brown did a lot of work for local charities, especially at the former Astronaut pub on Union Street, Accrington, and also did many pram races. He enjoyed following the horses, reading and his pet dog.

A driver for 16 years at Senior Heat Treatment, Blackburn, he leaves children Catherine, Marg-aret, Jane and Hughie, brothers and sisters, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Stewart and George.

He was cremated at Accrington on Wednesday 17 September following a service conducted by the Rev Ken Fitzsimmons.
