Stewart Smith

GARDENER Mr Stewart Smith has died in the Royal Blackburn Hospital,aged 59.
After leaving school, Mr Smith, of Gloucester Avenue, Accrington, was taken on as an apprentice toolmaker at Prestige in Burnley.
Following a change of career, he went to work for the Parks Department in Padiham as an assistant gardener and later at Joseph Arnold’s in Church as the company gardener, where he worked for over 25 years.
As well as gardening, Mr Smith enjoyed potholing, astronomy, reading, and trips to Scotland and the Lake District.
Mr Smith leaves his wife Letitia, mum Dorothy, sisters Valerie and Vivien, in-laws Ted and Ross, nieces Carole and Jacqueline, and great-nephews Garry and Christian. He was also the son of the late Harry.
He is due to be buried at Accrington Cemetery on Friday following a service at Accrington Crematorium Chapel conducted by Fr Martin Saunders.
