Rodney Hulme

A MAN with an active sporting and working life has died aged 65 at his home in Willows Lane, Accrington.
In his younger days Mr Rodney Hulme played semi-professional football for Padiham and won the Accrington tennis singles in 1964-65. He then ran a betting shop before emigrating to Australia in 1969.
He returned to Accring-ton after two years and ran a newsagent’s on Ormerod Street for 21 years. He purchased a second newsagent’s in Fern Gore, running them both for three years. He enjoyed a bet on the horses and watched all sport on TV.
His greatest joy was his two granddaughters Molly and Kitty, who gave him lots of pleasure.
The husband of Avril, he was the father of Kerry and the late Simon and also leaves son-in-law Anthony, his two granddaughters, a brother and sister, auntie, brothers-in-law, cousin, nephews and nieces.
He was cremated at Accrington on Friday 17 October following a service at St Peter’s Church, Accrington, conducted by Father David Lyon.
