Duncan Bamber

ENGINEERING boss Mr Duncan Richard Bamber has died at the age of 73 in the Countess of Chester Hospital, Chester.

Mr Bamber, of Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, served his apprenticeship as a toolmaker at Bancrofts Shuttles and Bobbins in Blackburn where he remained for six years.

Completing his apprenticeship, he left to do National Service in the Veterinary Corps based in Melton Mowbray, doing three years’ service as a saddler.

Following this he worked as an engineer, specialising in the extrusion of silicone rubber, at various companies over a number of years. This led to him eventually setting up his own business, Duncan Bamber Systems, based in Blackburn, which involved him travelling all over the world. He remained in engineering right up to his retirement six years ago.

His hobbies included restoring vintage motorbikes, reading, gardening and travelling in his motorhome with his wife Navette.

As well as his wife, he leaves children Jayne and Paul, grandchildren Liz, George, Clegg, Melody and Phoebe. He was the brother of Bryan and Richard, brother-in-law of Colin and father-in-law of Louise.

He was due to be cremated at Accrington on Friday 24 October following a service conducted by humanist Mr Edward Joyce.
