Alfred Heys

FORMER aircraft fitter Mr Alfred Heys, of Haywood Road, Accrington died at the Royal Blackburn Hospital aged 84.
Mr Heys worked at Nori Brickworks and trained as an engineering maintenance operative before the age of 18 when he was called up to serve King and country.
He joined the Signal Corps as a wireless operator for four-and-a-half years and served in the Far East, mainly in Burma, during World War Two. After leaving the forces he returned to Nori for several years.
He later became a fabricator at SG Aluminium in Oswaldtwistle and an aircraft fitter at English Electric in Clayton-le-Moors, spending several years at each.
He was a lifelong member of Enfield Cricket Club and a member of King Street snooker team in his earlier years.
He also enjoyed ballroom dancing, DIY, crosswords and watching cricket.
He loved holidaying in Bournmouth in the early years of his marriage and later abroad.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Dorothy, daughter Norma, son-in-law Barry, grandchildren Lorraine and Daniel, and great-grandchildren Charlie, Sophie, Grace, Jamie and Ethan.
His funeral was due to be held yesterday (Thursday) when the Rev Roger Parker conducted a service before cremation at Accrington.
