George Dawes

NARROWBOAT enthusiast Mr George Bernard Dawes, of Ascot Way, Accrington, has died aged 80 in the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The husband of the late Barbara, he was the managing director of Holmefield Garage, Rawtenstall, for 33 years up to 1998.

A member of St Paul’s Church, Accrington, he was also a member of the East Lancs and West Yorks Boat Club and the Air Training Corps. He enjoyed cruising on the canal and built and owned two narrowboats.

He leaves daughters Beverly and Adrienne, son Garth, daughter-in-law Julie, son-in-law David and grandchildren Katie and Callum.

He was cremated at Accrington on Wednesday following a service at St Paul’s Church, Accrington, conducted by the Rev Eric Booth.
