Joseph Hodgkinson

A MAN who took part in the D-Day landings and later set up his own security business, Mr Joseph (Joe) Hodgkinson, has died in hospital in Palma, Majorca, aged 82.
Mr Hodgkinson, of Rhyddings Street, Oswaldtwistle, served with the Royal Ulster Rifles Regiment for five years during the Second World War. He began work at Leesona Holt in Darwen as a metal polisher, staying there for around 10 years, and later ran his own metal polishing business in the town.
He then set up a security business in Church. He had 10 fully-trained German Shepherd dogs and a staff of up to 50 people, providing security for factories and warehouses. He successfully operated this business for over 20 years until his retirement.
Mr Hodgkinson loved animals, particularly dogs, and spent a lot of time helping train police dogs at Lancashire Copnstabulary headquarters at Hutton near Preston. He was a member of Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club and a former member of Immanuel Bowling Club, Oswald-twistle.
Mr Hodgkinson lived in Majorca for a large part of the year, enjoying a very relaxed lifestyle.
The husband of the late Gladys, he leaves his partner Maria, daughter Sylvia, son Ian, grandchildren Debbie and Tracey, great-grandaughter Paige and special friends Paul, Abigail, Vickie, Holly and Hannah.
The Rev Ken Fitzsimmons will conduct a funeral service at Accrington Crematorium on Mon-day.
