Youngsters from Hyndburn have helped make lunches for visitors at a town centre charity.

A team of nearly a dozen people worked for the day at Maundy Relief on Abbey Street in Accrington making dinners and drinks for 25 people.

Other volunteers also worked at the Maundy shop further along the road and in the warehouse collecting and sorting out food parcels.

The group, aged between 16 and 25, are part of the Prince’s Trust scheme being run by Hyndburn Fire Station to help build confidence and skills.

Team leader and firefighter Chris West said: “We had a look at a few places and came to Maundy last week. The people who came along were really taken aback by the work that goes on here and wanted to help.”

The Prince’s Trust group have also raised nearly £350 from two supermarket bag packing days at Tesco and Asda in Accrington. The money will be presented to the charity at their final presentation at 12.30pm on Friday, November 29 at Accrington Town Hall.
