STANLEY have made their sixth signing of the summer by securing the services of former Wigan left-back Jordan Mustoe.

The 23-year-old was a free agent after being released by the Latics at the end of last season having made four first-team appearances for the Championship outfit.

Mustoe played in Stanley's pre-season draw at Altrincham and today joined the Reds on a short-term deal.

"I’m thrilled,” he said. “To not have a club on the first weekend of the season hurt. The plan was always to be at a club by then and I’m just glad to be here now.

“I don’t think some players realise how tough it is out there. There’s a little bit of luck involved too and you have to perform. I’ve had a good pre-season and I’m raring to go.”

After being released by Liverpool, Mustoe signed his first professional contract with Wigan in 2009. He spent loan spells with Barnet, Morecambe, Carlisle, Bury and Wycombe before returning to Morecambe last season and finishing the campaign with the Reds' local rivals.

“He’s a very good player and played for us in pre-season,” added Stanley boss James Beattie.

“We were very impressed with him then and he’s come in initially on a short-term contract but as our salary cap rises we’ll hopefully be able to offer him a longer deal.”
