Dancers at St John’s Ambulance in Accrington are shown in this week’s top picture.

They were snapped by former Observer photographer Garth Dawson in the 1970s.

Garth said: “The picture was taken at the St John’s Ambulance Hall and shows a presentation to one of their members watched by a happy group of revellers.”

Our next picture shows a successful school group of sporting pupils taken in 1968.

Garth said: “These are the sports winners at the Accrington Girls High school proudly displaying their winning trophies.”

Our final photograph this week shows Back Abbey Street in 1940 looking towards Abbey Street with a church in the background.

Do you recognise the people at the St John’s Ambulance dance or the successful sporting students?

Why not let us know and send us your memories for our letters page?

We want to publish your old pictures.

They can be from any era up to the 1990s.

Please bring them to our Market Hall office or email them to accringtonobserver@menmedia.co.uk and tell us why they are important to you.
