40 hopefuls, thee judges

Channel M's Jemma Gofton
8/ 5/2008

I DON'T think there are many people who have asked Frank Bruno whether he is up for collecting girls' phone numbers, questioned ex-United star Lee Sharpe over his preference for blondes or brunettes or approached Dancing On Ice's Chris Fountain and wondered what he looks for in a girl.

Well I did last week and it was all in the line of duty.

Style In The City had access all areas at Miss Manchester 2008. The judging panel was made up of the A-listers above and the 40 gorgeous women who strutted their stuff down the catwalk.

The night had so much to offer. X Factor's Daniel De Bourg treated us to a live performance and dance group MD Productions set the stage alight with a couple of breathtaking routines. Keep an eye out for MD Productions, I think they are going to be huge. After much deliberation the judges managed to whittle the 40 contestants down to 10 (how, I have no idea) and then to the final three.

Confetti

The winner was Jessica Simpson and in true beauty pageant-style confetti sprinkled down on her as she was handed flowers and the crown by the reigning Miss Manchester Alanna Merchant.

Becoming Miss Manchester is a huge responsibility. Jessica will now go on to compete in the Miss England final and if she wins that, then it's the big one - Miss World.

How great would it be if a northern lass went onto represent us in such a well known competition?

Because the night was filled with glitz, gloss and glamour we have devoted a whole episode of Style In The City to the extravaganza.

So if you want to see what really happens behind the scenes at these events, plus interviews with Manchester's finest celebs and much more then tune into our Miss Manchester Special, tonight on Channel M at 8pm.

I'm on hols in Turkey this week, so wish you were here and all that. But that's enough work from me, I'd better go - after all that Grazia magazine won't read itself.

Much love from a sun-kissed Jemma.
