Terry got sound advice

23/ 6/2008

TERRY NICHOLS, 70, sought the advice of an independent financial adviser (IFA), Gregory Adam, when he had to arrange an annuity.

He had left employment at the age of 56, with a company pension, and set himself up as an engineering consultant. He decided to boost his company pension with a personal pension from Norwich Union and paid in £150 each month.

A year ago, Terry decided to visit his IFA to agree what to do about arranging an annuity.

He says: "I wanted to pay off an outstanding mortgage, so I took a tax-free lump sum (£9,000) and bought an annuity with the rest (£27,000)."

Terry's IFA chose a level annuity with Canada Life that is guaranteed for 10 years. He says: "I am happy that my IFA got me the best deal."
