A housing developer has been given the go-ahead to build more than 100 new homes in Accrington.

The Observer reported last month how a planning application had been submitted by Keepmoat which would see houses created on a cleared site off Blackburn Road, near the Acorn Centre.

Councillors approved the project at the latest planning committee meeting last week.

The application is the second phase of ‘Project Phoenix’ and includes a mix of semi-detached and detached properties with a range of two to four bedrooms and bungalows. It is part of a regeneration programme developed along with Hyndburn Council, Regenerate Pennine Lancashire and Great Places Housing Group.

David Wroe, new build managing director for Keepmoat Homes in the North West, said they will building ‘high quality affordable homes’ to help families get on the property ladder. He said: “The first phase of Keepmoat’s Acorn Park development off Blackburn Road sold out very quickly and we have experienced strong demand for the second phase of homes currently being built.

“This planning application marks another new chapter in the regeneration of west Accrington and is hugely encouraging news for the town’s housing market.”
