An Accrington man has started a free swap shop for needy people on Facebook.

Joseph McMurrough, 53, launched the  Free Items Around BB Postcodes group 10 weeks ago and already has 12,000 members.

Joseph, 53,  says the group donate all manner of items including selection boxes for needy children and said King George's Hall in Blackburn had even donated a family ticket for the Christmas pantomime.

This and a giant teddy will be raffled to help cover petrol costs for volunteers.

He said: “I started by adding a few friends of my Facebook page.

“We will have more than 20,000 members by Christmas

“The help people are giving is unreal we have never seen anything like it,these great people could very easy sell these items and there choosing to give them away free.

“I predict there will be 100,000 members in one year and most will be giving their unwanted items away.”

Joseph, of Richmond Road, explained items were stored above Aquamania in Blackburn and volunteers then delivered everything from food parcels to beds to people across Hyndburn, Rossendale. Blackburn and other areas covered by the BB postcodes.
