Former Corrie star Julie Hesmondhalgh, from Accrington, gave an impassioned speech to anti-austerity activists at a rally held to coincide with the Conservative Party conference in Manchester.
Julie who is originally from Church, gave a speech at Castlefield Arena at the TUC and The People’s Assembly event on October 4.
Julie, who is prominently politically left wing, connected Sunday’s glorious weather to the protest, saying that the ‘socialist sun’ had come out that day.
In her address to the crowd, Julie, 45, criticised the Conservative government and said: “We are the dying, we are the angry and we have had enough.”
The actress was part of a host of guest speakers to address the crowded arena including Charlotte Church, Green Party leader Natalie Bennett, commentator Owen Jones and comedian Mark Steel.
Julie also lent her support to the Stand Up to Racism campaign group, posing for a photo while holding a sign that said ‘refugee lives matter’.
Around 60,000 demonstrators attended the anti-austerity march. In August Julie led a 2,000-strong rally backing Jeremy Corbyn for Labour leader.
