A nursery manager has spoken of her shock after being ‘stitched up’ to sing karaoke on Ant and Dec Saturday Night Takeaway.

Chantelle Maudsley, who runs Heathlands Nursery in Accrington, was nominated by friend and nursery colleague Emily Ashworth to appear on the ‘sing-a-long live’ part of the Saturday night television show.

She was unwittingly taken to a ‘fake’ karaoke bar in Manchester’s Media City and left ‘absolutely gobsmacked’ after Ant and Dec appeared live on a screen.

Chantelle, from Oswaldtwistle, said: “She totally stitched me up. Everybody knew but me. I didn’t question anything.

“When I got to this bar I thought it was real. I absolutely genuinely knew nothing. I was saying I can’t do karaoke, I won’t do it and then I see Ant and Dec on the screen.”

Producers on the ITV show had changed the Love Conquers All cafe into a one-night karaoke bar.

The Geordie duo then tasked her and two other men with singing along to the Spandau Ballet classic Gold.

However, she failed to win the contest after providing the wrong missing word.

Chantelle, 31, said: “I religiously watch it every week. I was totally, genuinely shocked. My face was a picture. It was absolutely fabulous but surreal and unbelievable.

“I have watched it again and again on TV and my phone hasn’t stopped.”

Emily, 20, from Baxenden, said she nominated Chantelle for the karaoke after failing to get tickets for the live show.

.

She said: “Everybody was singing away in the bar and then Ant and Dec came on the screen. I pretended not to know what was going on but Chantelle was going mad as we love them.

“Her reaction was amazing. She was absolutely gobsmacked.

“Unfortunately she didn’t win but it was such a good laugh.”
