MYSTERY surrounds the disappearance of four silver heritage cricket cups.

The cups, which are roughly 130 years old, were awarded as part of the disbanded Accrington Cricket League and Mid Week Workers League.

The leagues disbanded last year after a lack of participation and a hunt is now on to track down the cups.

Hyndburn MP Graham Jones has appealed for anyone with any information about the whereabouts of the trophies to come forward.

He said: “It has just become a bit of a mystery really, no one seems to know where these trophies have disappeared to.

“No one is suggesting any foul play, a club may have won the trophy and forgotten to return it.”

He added: “A young lad came forward to me looking to get the leagues going again and he really wants to track the trophies down.

“There is a lot of heritage in these trophies, it is really important that they are returned.”

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of the cups or who can shed light on the mystery should call Mr Jones on 01254 382283 or visit his office at 50 Abbey Street, Accrington.
