Not a single day off school in 11 years

Kate Watkins and Sophie Maden
16/ 5/2008

TEENAGER Niall Gibson walked out of school for the last time on Wednesday as the proud holder of a remarkable record – never having missed a single day.

Niall, 16, had a perfect 100 per cent attendance record during his 11 years at St Nicholas’ Primary School in Church and then at St Christopher’s High School, Accrington.

So pleasing to read about Niall´s attendance record. My daughter had a perfect attendance record at her primary school, and was recognised each year for that until a new head teacher arrived. When I invited him to explain, I got one of those ´this explanation suits me and I´m happy with that´ replies. Thereafter, when my daughter told me that she´d been watching end-of-term films I wondered aloud why I sent her to school to do that. I remain distinctly unhappy with the proffered response.

Congratulations to Niall Gibson. This is the kind of news article that we should be proud to read-not quick to condemn.

Well said Anthony. If there was a few more lads like Niall,or his parents for that matter we'd live in a better country. Suppose Mr. Know-It-All from Blackpool knows better, either he went to a better school and if he did his parents will have paid for it in Blackpool because there isn't a school there that can hold a candle to St. Christophers or did he spent his schooldays like most of the riff-raff in Blackpool hanging around the amusement arcades making a nuisance of himself! Leave the finest and highest achieving non-grammer school in Lancashire alone....Chrissys Old Boy And Proud Of It

At least he is following the law of the land and doing as he's told;and his parents CARE about his education, it's surely better than the kids who constantly skip school and truant and whose parents do little or naff-all to stop it,and whose parents constantly take kids out of school to go on holiday in termtime and those hardcore truant kids who persist and risk landing their parents in court with threats of fines and jail.
