Two art and design students from Clayton-le-Moors have displayed their work to the public.

Matthew Savage, of Barnes Street, has just finished his BA (Hons) Photographic Media degree and based his final photography documentary project on outdoor labourers who work in the Forest of Bowland.

He started shooting in January and spent four months documenting images.

Matthew, 22, said: “I did a lot of ringing round to find people who might be interested in taking part. I’m a firm believer of ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’.

“The most difficult part was the weather, especially during the winter as the rain was quite challenging at times, although it did make for more dramatic skies.

“I’m very happy to see it up on display and my dad and a few friends have come to have a look as well.”

Matthew plans to spend five months travelling through Asia with two of his best friends, and then hopes to continue pursuing his freelance photography.

Adam Finley, of Whalley Road, has completed his BA (Hons) Fine Art (Integrated Media) degree and created three video installations and two self-portrait photos in the show.

The 21-year-old spent eight months putting the show together and plans to build on his show during the summer and then take a year out from September.

He said: “All my work is based on the concept of gender boundaries based on my own self and exploring who I am as a person.

“I would recommend the course to anyone who is interested in art.

“I didn’t think I was good enough to do a degree until I came here but you get so much support and encouragement from the tutors, it’s fantastic.”

Joanna Sperryn-Jones, programme leader at Blackburn College, said the students had done ‘fantastically well to pull off a great show’.

She said: “Quite a few of the students have responded particularly well to the space by making installations on quite a big scale. I’m extremely proud of them.”

The college’s annual Art & Design degree show will run until Friday, June 5.

College bosses said the show has always provided a forum for top creative businesses to reach out to new talent and future employees and may graduates find jobs through the show.
