More than 60 cubs and beavers from 1st Oswaldtwistle St Paul’s Scout group are set to take part in the Rotary Club of Church and Oswaldtwistle’s charity walk.

The cubs and beavers aged between six and ten will take part in the 5k walk on Sunday, May 17 which starts at the business centre at Junction 7 opposite the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in Clayton-le-Moors.

Richard Wallwork, the Walk organiser, said: “ I am delighted that the cubs and beavers and their parents are turning out in such big numbers on the day and hope they both enjoy the experience and are successful in raising much needed funds”.

This will be the 10th consecutive Walk that the Rotary club of Church and Oswaldtwistle have held, which has raised around £425,000 for various charities and good causes.

As well as the 5k walk there will be 2 other events taking part on the same day the main 10k walk and a new 5k fun run.

The 1st Oswaldtwistle St Pauls scout group leader Corinna Jones said: “I am very proud of how many cubs and beavers are taking part in raising funds for much needed equipment for the club to ensure that young people continue to learn valuable life skills, and experience fun and challenging adventures.

“In the coming months further activities are planned including a 4-day residential course to promote team building and personal confidence. Also I would like to thank the parents who are supporting them in this worthy venture”.

New attractions are planned at Junction 7 on the day of the Charity Walk comprising a dog competition which will take place between 9.00-9.30 am prior to the start of the walk.

In addition walkers on the 10k event will travel along the historic part of the Leeds-Liverpool canal which in the past has seen many successful firms around the church basin with remains still visible. A plaque at Church Kirk indicates the exact half way of the canal. There will be a tombola stall and a fun football competition run by Chris Mullen from the Accrington Stanley Community Trust.
