The newly rebuilt Lidl supermarket in Accrington is set to open later this month.

The company confirmed the opening date for the store on Hyndburn Road is Thursday, June 25.

Work on the site has been ongoing for nearly a year following the previous store’s demolition.

The retailer previously stated that between five and 10 extra jobs would be created as part of the scheme to replace the previous store.

In its planning application to Hyndburn council, Lidl proposed a replacement store 763sqm larger than the existing one to include 94 car parking slots.

The extra floorspace would be put to non-sales use and also accommodate a large pallet freezer, in-store bakery and preparation area, and more storage space.

The new supermarket will also be joined soon by the opening of the Marstons ‘Brickworks’ pub and restaurant on the site of the former Arnold Clarke garage site, also on Hyndburn Road, Accrington.
