Supermarket chain Farmfoods will open its new Accrington store on Friday.

The frozen food giant has moved into the former bowling alley at The Viaduct in Accrington.

Ten new full and part-time jobs are being created.

Alistair Kay, head of property acquisition at Farmfoods, said they are looking forward to returning to the town.

He told the Observer: “We are very much looking forward to serving the local people of Accrington and surrounding areas.

“Some years ago we did have a store in the town centre. We have not had that presence for some time and we are very much looking forward to returning.

“We have existing stores nearby in Blackburn and two in Burnley and we feel Accrington was another location in the area that we could compete and offer the local people good value shopping.”

Mr Kay said the old Superbowl unit near the new bus station is ideal for its needs.

He said: “It’s a good central location, easy to access by public transport links, on foot and by car.

“There is a fairly plentiful supply of residential housing nearby. It ticks all the boxes for the sort of location we are looking for.

“The staff are excited to meet our new customers and give them a very warm welcome.”

The store will open at 8am on Friday, July 1.
