A former bus shelter base has been repainted with a poppy theme to commemorate the Accrington Pals as part if a community spring clean.

Members of the Laneside Residents Association including chairman Malcolm Sommerville and secretary Jean Sommerville teamed up with Accrington Academy and Hyndburn council for the area improvement scheme.

They replaced several damaged trees and also repaint the former bus shelter base at Dyke Nook Gardens.

Malcolm said: “We have worked with the school, Accrington Acadamy, who are now looking after a couple of the raised beds on the garden.

“We have also honoured the Pals regiment by putting our own little tribute in Dyke Nook, with the repainted old bus shelter base.” Malcolm also thanked the community and councillors for their help.
