A brownie pack celebrated their 40th anniversary with a reunion party.

The 4th Accrington brownies gathered in Cambridge Street Methodist Church to remember their history and welcome old members.

Two years ago, the brownies had cleared out a room in the church and found an old certificate with the founding date - April 29, 1975.

They decided to hold a celebration and started tracking down old members.

Sandra Fawcett, Brown Owl, said: “Pat Fawcett, my mother-in-law, could remember names of some people.

"It was a chain of asking people, who might know people, who might know people.

"Some still live in the local area, so they kept in touch over all those years.”

Joan Maden travelled 5,500 miles from California, where she moved in the early 1990s, to attend the event.

She founded the pack alongside Pat because she wanted to give her daughter the experience, which her father had denied her.

The evening saw speeches, the cutting of a birthday cake, dance performances and promises.

Sandra said: “It was great remembering the old days, it was a really wonderful night.”
