A three-year-old girl has been bitten in the face by a dog.

Police were called to High Street in Rishton after the incident was reported by the girl’s mother and the youngster was taken to hospital.

She suffered ‘minor injuries’.

Duty Inspector Duncan Arthur said: “A three-year-old girl was bitten in the face by a dog on the High Street and we have not managed to locate the dog as yet and there was no owner there.

“Fortunately she has sustained quite minor injuries it would appear and is a lot less serious than it could have been.”

The dog is described as a dark brown Staffordshire-type with a some white on its chest.

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, September 22.
