A headteacher has praised staff and pupils after her school was rated ‘good’ by inspectors.

Ofsted visited Rishton Methodist School and gave a glowing report on pupil progress and behaviour, teaching quality and school leadership.

Janet Neale said everyone at the Rishton school is ‘absolutely thrilled to bits’ with the report.

She said: “We were just really pleased about the whole thing.

“It is such a good report. We were due for an inspection as our last one was in 2011 and we have worked really hard to get ready for it.

“We were really pleased that they said the teaching across the school is good and also they comments made about the children’s behaviour.

“They also praised us for the number of school clubs, trips and visits and the things we have brought into the school.

“Since January 2014 when I came we have worked really hard to turn the school around and I’m so proud of the staff and the children. They are absolutely amazing.”

Lead inspector Robert Birtwell said the school needed to challenge high achieving pupils more and improve middle leaders to be rated an outstanding school.
