A school will partially close to pupils tomorrow when members of a national teaching union go out on strike.

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) is taking industrial action to demonstrate against cuts in funding and to campaign for changes to working conditions and teacher’s pay packets.

The Hollins Technology College in Accrington will be closed to pupils in years seven and nine, but will remain open for years eight and ten and the scheduled parents’ evening will also take place as planned - although some teachers may be absent.

Lancashire County Council is reporting at least 28 schools across the county will be shut or partially shut on Tuesday.

In a letter to parents, headteacher Steve Campbell said: “As a consequence of this action I will have to close the school for pupils in years seven and nine. Schools will be open as normal for years eight and ten and year seven parents’ evening will still take place however, all staff may not be present.

“I apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your continuing support.”

In the event that the strike is called off the school will be open as normal for all pupils.
