A series of homes, garages and sheds across the borough were burgled on a single night.

Police said a house on Daisy Hill Court in Huncoat was targeted by offenders who removed the front door handle to gain entry while the occupants were asleep.

Anthony Ford, police watch liaison officer, said they stole a purse before being disturbed when the family dog started barking.

A house garden shed was broken into on Dill Hall Lane in Church and a Ryobi petrol strimmer was stolen.

Burglars also forced open a number of garages on the same street and stole various property including a mountain bike.

Mr Ford said burglars also tried to force entry into another house on Dawson Close in Church but were again thwarted when a dog started barking.

All the incidents took place overnight on Wednesday, November 2 to Thursday, November 3.
