A team of under 14s have swept to victory in the East Lancashire Football Alliance League.

Huncoat United celebrated being crowned the ELFA yellow league champions after winning 16 out of 18 games and scoring 76 goals.

The team’s final game of the season was a 3-0 win against Pendle Forest at King George’s playing fields.

Striker Riley Armstrong scored his 38th goal of the season and Sam Steer scored his first two of the season.

Manager Ian Holliday said that he was ‘incredibly proud’ by his team’s performance.

He said: “This group of lads are great, they just really want to play football. We just try to teach them to keep the ball on the deck and play football.”

Ian, who is a level one certified FA coach, started coaching Huncoat United two years ago when the previous manager left.

He said: “It was a bit of a change from being stood at the sidelines watching my son play every week.

“It has been a pleasure to coach the team, they really want to learn and improve.

“The lads and all the parents were really chuffed when they won, they were spraying soda water all over each other, it was a great day.”

Ian said that the team would now look forward to a few summer friendlies in preparation for next season.

He said: “We have got a friendly in Fleetwood in June and a tournament in Haslingden.

"We have been promoted now so we’ll be playing in the under 15s red league which will be a bit more of a challenge.”
