Pupils from two Hyndburn schools have secured places at the prestigious SPAR Lancashire Schools Games finals.

Teams from St Christopher’s High School in Accrington and St Mary’s RC primary school in Oswaldtwistle competed against 18 other schools from the borough and the Ribble Valley and were victorious in the high five netball and girls cricket.

They will join schools at the county finals at Stanley Park in Blackpool on June 30 and will aim to be crowned Lancashire champions in both sports.

St Christopher’s beat Mount Carmel High School by 19 runs in the girls cricket Hyndburn finals at Rishton Cricket Club.

St Mary’s Oswaldtwistle won all three group games in the netball qualifiers, scoring 22 points and only conceding two points.

Jane Johnson, who is the school games organiser for Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley, said: “Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s girls’ cricket qualifiers. I wish you all the very best at the SPAR Lancashire School Games.

“The standard of netball skills on show was fantastic.

“Congratulations to all the pupils who took part in the competition.”
