A former Safestyle UK contractor who stole over £8,200 in staff wages from the company has been jailed.

Gareth McCash ‘snatched’ the money from two employees as they arrived with pay envelopes at the company’s office unit on the Rising Bridge Business and Enterprise Village.

The 35-year-old, who had previously worked for the firm on a self-employed basis, was then chased by one of the victims as he fled to his nearby car.

But McCash threatened him through the closed car door and drove off.

McCash, of Bolton Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to theft of £8,294 at Blackburn Magistrates Court and said he was using the money to clear off debts. He was jailed for 20 weeks.

The incident happened outside the business park on Blackburn Road at around 9.45am on Saturday, February 6 this year.

A Safetsyle UK spokesperson said: “Safestyle is pleased that the matter has been dealt with appropriately by the courts.

“Mr McCash had previously worked with Safestyle in a self-employed capacity and his desperate and opportunistic act was upsetting for those former colleagues directly involved in the incident.”
