A local hero was the star attraction as B&M unveiled its new look Accrington town centre store.

B&M’s new Home Store and Garden centre, on Hyndburn Road, opened its doors on Wednesday, and the ribbon was cut by local hero David Reid.

The 14-year-old St Christopher’s pupil campaigned for four years to have a new play park built in West End, Oswaldtwistle.

The teenager’s hard work came to fruition when the £100,000 play park was officially opened earlier this month.

David’s dad Sean nominated his son in the company’s search for a local hero to open the new store.

Sean said: “We had a fantastic morning, the manager showed us around the new store. David’s looking forward to spending his £250 voucher.”

Paul Broadbent, Store Manager at B&M Accrington Hyndburn said: “Thank you to everyone who joined us for our opening. We look forward to welcoming even more customers to our launch event on Saturday and making it a really fun day. It was also a huge honour to bring another 45 jobs to the area as well as recognising our local hero.”
