The race to find Accrington’s 25th Carnival Queen is hotting up - but more entries are needed. The first entrant for this year’s contest was 17-year-old Abbie Denwoon, who works as a sales assistant. Abbie loves to socialise and spend time with her friends and family.

The Carnival Queen competition will be judged on May 7 at Accrington and Rossendale College and is open to young women aged 16 and over who live or work in Hyndburn.

Entrants need to take a completed application form to Trevor Adams Studios on Warner Street where arrangements will be made for a photograph to be taken. Each entrant will be sent a limited number of tickets for their supporters to join them.

Application forms are available from www.accringtoncarnival.co.uk

This year’s carnival will be held on Saturday, June 13 at King George’s playing fields.

The theme for this year’s procession is fantasy and fairytale, while the theme of the fields will be Through the Decades.

To mark its 50th anniversary, carnival organisers the Accrington Lions are trying to track down the queens from previous years to take part in a big procession on the day.
