A couple will renew their wedding vows to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

Michael and Margaret Coyne, of Bamford Crescent, Accrington, tied the knot at Sacred Heart Church on November 20, 1965.

They will now renew their vows in front of family and friends at St Anne’s Church in Accrington at noon on Saturday, November 21, before enjoying a party at the Canine Club.

Michael, 81, was born in Bacup and moved to Canada when he was 17 and joined the Redemptorist ministry.

He also worked as a painter and decorator before returning to Accrington, aged 30 and later worked at Lucas Aerospace in Burnley.

Margaret, also 81, was born in Acre near Haslingden and is a retired laboratory worker. The couple have three children and five grandchildren.

Michael said: “I knew Margaret before I went to Canada as we used to go dancing. We met again when I came back and started going out and married in 1965. It’s a great milestone and the years have just flown by. I think the secret is keeping yourself busy. We go to church every week and enjoy our holidays all over the world.”
