A man from Accrington has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction.

The 33-year-old is currently in police custody for questioning as part of an investigation into the abduction of a six-year-old girl.

Detectives launched a manhunt after the girl was taken by a man, possibly in a black car, from Nairne Street, Burnley, at around 4pm on Thursday, March 26.

It is believed she was then dropped off at Whitefield Street, Hapton at around 4.30pm where she was found and returned home before police were called.

Officers are continuing their appeal and have urged anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanne McHugh, of East CID, said: “We need anyone who may have witnessed a black coloured car in the Nairne Street or Whitefield Street areas around the time of the abduction to contact us."
