CHILDREN and staff at a nursery have raised almost £3,000 for a cancer charity.

A host of wacky activities organised by staff at First Class Childcare Centre in Accrington amassed £2,943, which they have donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The donation was made as a thank you for the support the charity gave to a colleague during her illness.

Fundraising tasks included a sponsored jailbreak where staff had to make their own way home from Manchester without any money.

Children enjoyed taking part in a sponsored Superhero Day where they dressed up as their favourite character to tackle obstacle courses and games.

The annual pre-school leavers’ prom at the Poplar Club in Accrington also saw prizes donated by businesses, which were raffled to boost funds.

Jill Dwyer, nursery manager, said their local Macmillan representative, Hannah Richmond visited them.

She added: “We presented her with the cheque, plus one the children had made themselves. She was delighted with the amount raised and will support us with fundraising in 2016.”
