An animal centre horse box has been gutted by a large blaze.

Firefighters from Hyndburn and Blackburn were called to the back of the centre on Whalley Road in Accrington and used breathing apparatus to get close and extinguish the fire with hose reels.

The fire ‘severely damaged’ the horse box containing straw and wood shavings. No animals were inside.

The incident happened late on Thursday, December 3 and is not being treated as suspicious.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “The animal rescue centre is a non profit organisation and is now without transport for its waste.

“A fire investigation is now in progress but at this time the fire is not thought to be suspicious.

“If anyone has any information regarding this incident then please contact Hyndburn Fire Station or the police.”
