AN ACCRINGTON dental practice which was torched during a burglary three months ago has re-opened to patients.
Mark Wilkinson's practice in Whalley Road suffered over £300,000-worth of damage when it was set alight by an intruder following the theft of two computers and a number of tools last November.
The inside of the surgery was severely smoke-damaged and contractors have been working on the site for the past few months. The refurbishment process has not yet been completed but the surgery has been open to emergency cases for two weeks and started taking routine appointments last week.
Mr Wilkinson, who is the only dentist at the practice, said: "We are getting back on track gradually. Fortun-ately it was all smoke damage - there was no structural damage. It was just all the decoration and electrical stuff that was affected. The cleaning and decoration work has been done and now they are working on the sterilising and X-ray areas.
"We have got two surgeries which we are using at the moment, one for me and one for the hygienist. They reckon they will be finished in a week, a couple of weeks at the most, then we can get the new equipment in and the carpets down. The claim is still being worked out but we think the final value is going to be over £300,000."
