Arsonists are believed to have set off a small rubbish fire in an old wartime bunker.

Firefighters attended the bunkers near West End, Oswaldtwistle at around 4.40pm yesterday (Sunday, March 4).

Two fire crews from Hyndburn were forced to walk part of the way to the bunkers after their fire engines couldn't get close enough.

They used aquapacks to extinguish the fire and a spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said they believe the fire was started deliberately.

Fire crews were also called to put out a rubbish fire in the back garden of a house after it started to get out of control.

The incident happened Broadfield Road in Accrington on Saturday, March 3 at around 7.40pm.
