ACCRINGTON Asda is asking customers to make a small donation to the appeal in exchange for having their Christmas presents wrapped by store staff.

Manager Karl Brown said: “This will take the hassle out of shopping  and help a good cause at the same time.

“We have been sending our staff to Wrap School so that they can make any purchase look pretty, no matter what the shape and size.’’

The service starts on 30 November and appplies to a maximum of three gifts per person per visit.

Several other organisations have also come forward to offer their support to the appeal.

They include Accrington and Rossendale College and the Accrington branch of the Royal British Legion.

l Don’t forget to go along to the fund-raising coffee morning organised by ex-Mayor Cath Thom at Willow Close Community Centre, Clayton-le-Moors, from 10am today.

l A raffle for a hamper, a roulette game for children, a cake stall, a tombola and games will be on offer at St Christopher’s High School after the church’s 9.30am service on 9 December.

Appeal co-ordinator Karen Smyth said: “There are a lot of people contributing to the appeal in many different ways – suggesting ideas, taking ideas forward, offering their time and their services. There is a lot going on behind the scenes so a big thank-you to everyone for their optimism and enthusiasm during these testing times.’’
